Together we can make Bellingham a city for the many, not just the wealthy few.
We believe stable housing is necessary to provide the opportunities and security people need to live healthy and successful lives and create thriving communities.
Today, skyrocketing rents are pricing our neighbors out of town or into homelessness. Landlords profit and dominate our political system. If this continues, working people will be unable to afford to live in Bellingham. Our community is hurting — and we're fed up.
By coming together, we can build our political power and pass new laws that protect our health, safety, and access to housing.
Renters are a majority in Bellingham. We have power — we just need to get organized.

New Action Alert!
First—thank you to everyone who called Senator Shewmake’s office on Thursday, 4/10. Your calls made an impact. Because of public pressure, Shewmake revised her harmful amendment to HB 1217.
Her original amendment raised the rent cap from 7% to 15%. After a flood of calls and emails, she changed it to 10% plus inflation.
This is a small concession, but let’s be clear:
10% + inflation is still unacceptable. Renters are still at risk of yearly rent hikes over 10%—and that’s not protection. That’s not affordability. That’s still rent gouging.
Shewmake claimed that a 7% cap was "dangerous," saying she fears a loss of housing supply. But what’s really dangerous is ignoring the reality that renters are already at the breaking point.
Senator Shewmake is wrong. And she needs to hear it.
