Two candidates running for state office, Justin Boneau and Sharon Shewmake, have requested BTU's endorsement.
Come meet the candidates, ask them questions (the tougher the better), submit your endorsement ballot, and enjoy some delicious food with your fellow union members.
If you're not a BTU member, you're welcome to join us, you just won't be able to vote on the endorsements.
Both candidates have identified affordable housing as a priority. Justin is also a renter and a BTU member — if he's elected, we will have a BTU member in the legislature! Whether we endorse them or not will be decided by us, the union membership!
We just them a rigorous questionnaire to see if their values align with ours, and to find out where they stand on housing issues, like rent control and tenant rights. We expect to have their responses by August 31st, at which point we will post them on our website.
We are also considering endorsing two initiatives, the Bellingham Home Fund and I-1631, the Clean Air, Clean Energy Initiative.
Members can vote on endorsements at this event. Voting will close at 3:30 PM, at which point we will announce the results!
